The dreaded hangar inspection and dinner for two

Hi everyone,

I am sure that everyone was hoping this issue would go away but in the interest of protecting your valuable assets and to keep the insurance companies happy we will be scheduling hangar inspections for the City owned hangars for October 7th, 8th and 9th from 9 AM to 3 PM.

The inspections will take about 15 minutes or so, (per hangar), and will be done by City Fire Marshal Jeff Bond accompanied by our own Gina Kadow.

The main issue is fire hazard. Other concerns are that the hangars are being used for aircraft storage as set forth in your hangar lease, and to determine if maintenance work is needed on the hangars.

After your inspection is complete, Jeff will advise you in writing if he has found issues that present fire hazards at which point you will be given a 30 day notice to get rid of the hazard before he re-inspects. Hopefully your hangar doesn't burn down in the mean time.

Gina will be armed with her vast knowledge regarding hangar leases and actual usage allowances. The ability to actually store an aircraft in the hangar will earn a lot of points; bonuses for actually being able to move your aircraft in and out, (without calling a moving van), will surely surprise if not totally overwhelm her.

Photos will be taken and the winner of the "most presentable hangar award", as determined by Gina, will receive a $50 gift certificate to the restaurant of their choice, my compliments.

On a more serious note, although all of the above are legitimate, now is a good time to go through your hangars and convince the significant others in your life that no, the airport is not a place they let you go just because you agree to dispose of all the magazines, furniture and other junk for them. If you really don't need a hangar anymore there are quite a few aircraft weathering away on the ramp that could really use a nice safe place to park out of the sun and hail storms. It will save you some money and make another aviator very happy.

Gina will be contacting each of you with notification of the time for the inspection and you are welcome to be present during the inspection of your hangar. I encourage you to make a list of any significant maintenance issues on your hangar that need to be done and we will start putting together a schedule to address them as time and money allows.
